#sayThankYou

Mr Mario Teo, I would like to say a huge thank you for looking after me over the last 3 years. I have trusted you with my life and continue to have every faith in all that you say and do. It’s because of you that I am here today still positive and fighting. Yes my life as it was is different, but in this pandemic I think everyone’s life is different. As a family, we say thank you from our hearts, and know anyone in your care will have the greatest care ever

I was admitted to Southmead Hospital after visiting Specsavers for an eye test, having experienced vertigo and some vision disturbances, I thought it was eye strain from a desk based job. They found severe Papilledema and I was told to go straight to A&E. Fast forward many hours spent in A&E I was admitted as an emergency patient from Bristol eye hospital the next day to Southmead hospital having been diagnosed with a Colloid Cyst with Hydrocephalus. Mr Mario Teo and his team were amazing. He spent a long time answering any questions myself and my family had and made us feel like nothing was to smaller question to ask. After talking through the surgery options I felt that even though the thought of having brain surgery was frightening, I had every confidence in Mr Teo and his team. There was no else I would rather have perform the operation.I felt incredibly well looked after during my 3 week stay at Southmead with Mr Teo visiting me every day after the operation. Having had a few follow up queries, Mr Teo's Secretaries have always been able to provide answers to alleviate any concerns I had post op. I would highly recommend Mr Teo and his team and all of the staff on ward 6B at Southmead hospital.

Wow, what an amazing human being!!!! I first met Mr. Teo on 7th November after an MRI scan had showed I had a 7cm meningioma.I arrived at Southmead as an emergency where Mr Teo talked through what was happening in my brain. He explained everything in such detail, answering all of my family’s questions while at the same time filling me with confidence and trust. The operation was carried out the following morning. Even after 13 hours in surgery he still took the time to ring my family to tell them how it went and how I was.He also rang me at home with the results that the tumour was benign. I was in hospital for a week,he came to see me everyday to update me on my progress. I felt like a new woman as soon as I opened my eyes. I knew I was better. When I got home there were a few occasions where I had questions to ask. Mr Teos secretaries were amazing. So helpful and supportive.Ive just had my follow up appointment and he was just as lovely warm friendly and professional as I remembered. Going through all of my results. It was great news, the tumour has gone!. He admitted the procedure was a challenge and the tumour was stubborn but he didn’t give up and for that I’ll be forever grateful. My optic nerve is intact and looks like it’s never been touched according to an eye consultant. Also my eyesight is perfect, my energy levels are increasing and I feel like me again. All because of Mr Teo and his amazing team working their magic. Thankyou all so much.

I first met Mr Teo after emergency neuro-surgery for a large meningioma in 2016 and a resection in 2019. I have also had regular MRIs and follow up appointments. On each occasion Mr Teo spent time answering all mine and my husband's questions and explaining any misconceptions we might have had. He was very understanding when other medical possibilities were suggested and was happy to refer me to other departments so I could get views for instance on radiotherapy. My recent scan was clear but should anything return I would feel confident with Mr. Teo's conducting the surgery. I cannot praise him enough.

After being diagnosed with an Epidermoid brain tumour in the fourth ventricle (next to the brain stem) in September 2018, I was referred to a top neurosurgeon in London. My appointment with him lasted 5 minutes and I was told to carry on life as normal and only contact him when I start getting more debilitating symptoms. And this is where my journey began to find the right neurosurgeon for myself. I spent nearly 4 months researching and after seeing 5 neurosurgeons (some privately) and contacting various others, I knew I had found the right one in Mr Mario Teo (or “Super Mario” as my husband calls him) From my first initial email to him in January of this year, to which he personally replied to within 6 minutes, until this day, he has always been there for me and my family. He reassured me that the best way forward was to remove the tumour (which measured 4cm x 3.5cm x 3.5cm) before it started adhering and causing other symptoms and that I had a better chance of a 100% removal if surgery was performed sooner rather than later. He also mentioned that he had performed a similar procedure on another patient with the same diagnosis, which is quite rare as not a lot of people have Epidermoids in the fourth ventricle (this information was very important to me) And after reading all the reviews on this website, I knew I had made the right decision. My first consultation with Mr Teo was in April of this year. He spent over 90 minutes with me and my family, answering our many questions and not once did he make us feel that we were taking up too much of his time. He is extremely knowledgeable and fully explained everything to us calmly and in detail. My family and I were so impressed and were in awe of him and I left the appointment feeling very positive and at ease for the first time since being diagnosed. Although we live in Berkshire, Mr Teo made sure that all the arrangements were made for my admission to Southmead Hospital. My successful surgery was performed on the 17th of September 2019 and Mr Teo managed to remove 100% of the tumour, with no neurological deficits. My post operative care was exceptional. Mr Teo came to visit me everyday during my 8 days at Southmead and was more than happy to talk to me and my whole family at length and answer our many questions. Following my recent appointment with Mr Teo on the 19/11/2018 I am pleased to say that my scan is 100% clear and my follow up appointment is in 12 months. My scar has healed perfectly and you can’t even tell I’ve had surgery. My family and I are forever grateful to Mr Teo and can’t thank him enough for everything that he has done and continues to do for us. In my opinion he is an exceptional neurosurgeon who is so compassionate and attentive and shows great empathy for his patients. I consider myself very fortunate to have been his patient. We would also like to thank the lovely Vita Stagno who is a great asset to his amazing team and a very talented and caring neurosurgeon and all the wonderful staff in ICU and ward 6B. Thank you all so much! x
